Frequently
Asked Questions
Learn the
answers to your most pressing questions about our
classes, courses and parties
I've
never danced, will I stand out?
No, you'll
be surrounded by other people, like yourself, with
some that have danced and others that have NEVER danced!
We set the right expectation up front, support and
encourage each other while learning!
Which
Classes should I take? Are they all the same?
All the
beginning classes teach the same fundamental dance
techniques. Each class covers different patterns,
so you can take several classes each week and learn
new things. It does not matter which day of the week,
or where the class location is - you'll always learn
what you need to know! Many people take multiple classes
each week to reinforce the learning process. Intermediate
classes teach different material/patterns each class.
So, for example, if you signed up for intermediate
classes on Wednesdays, and then also signed up on
Saturdays, you would learn different material. Many
people do this as well.
Do I
need a Partner?
Absolutely
not! We rotate partners in class, and everyone will
have ample partners. If we have an imbalance, extra
people just wait in between couples, and will get
a partner in a couple of minutes (we switch partners
quite a bit during class). We also do our best to
have even classes but it can be a challenge at times
with so many people signing up!
I'm
bringing someone, do I have to rotate partners?
Rotating
partners is not solely for social reasons. It helps
the learning process. It's necessary to properly learn
how to lead and follow. Everyone has a different style,
and changing partners will greatly enhance the speed
at which you learn. That being said, you can always
remove yourself slightly from the circle and not change
partners - no problem!
Can
I bring a group of people?
Absolutely!
If you're nervous about taking a class simply invite
your friends. They'll have a great time and you'll
be able to practice together. On certain classes,
please pre-register due to the room capacity. We also
have group rate discounts!
What
should I wear to class? Any special shoes to wear?
Most people
come in casual wear. Some dress up. Regardless, it's
a dance class, so you should be comfortable! Look
presentable and nice. You can never look too good,
right? The only solid tip is to avoid wearing rubber
shoes that stick to the dance floor. You will be spinning,
and you need to wear shoes with a leather, suede sole
or gym shoes.
Do I
need to make a booking?
For the
casual classes at Durham St East no bookings are necessary,
but for all other venues you need to ring or email
to make a booking.
How
to make payment?
Many of
the venues that we use for our classes don't have
facilities for eftpos, so sadly payment is cash or
cheque at the beginning of each class or course.
What
can I do if I can't make a class?
We have
classes in 6 locations around auckland and we teach
over 10 beginners courses a week, there is always
another class at the same level that you can attend
so that you don't get behind the rest of your class.
Just give us a call and we will tell you which alternative
class you can attend.
What
are concession cards?
We offer
concession cards, they are a way of giving a discount
to the people that are serious about learning to Salsa.
Everyone in a course gets a concession card. Concession
cards start from $60 for students to $70 for adults.
Where
to Practise?
The Latin
Rhythm Dance School has its very own party every Friday
from 9pm for our students to practise in a safe and
fun environment. There are Djs and teachers at hand
to help you with anything that you are having trouble
learning.
Can
I compete?
Students
and staff of the Hispanic Club are current NZ Salsa
Champions and represent NZ worldwide. If you are interested
in competiting then send us an email and join our
Competition and Performance classes.
How
many Students do we have?
Every week
we teach over 300 students to Salsa, we are the biggest
Salsa School in New Zealand.
